Discover Klarstein’s Stand Fan & Pedestal Fan Deals!
Stand fans and pedestal fans have always been among the go-to choices against the heat and summer temperatures, thanks to their affordable price and ease of use. Their efficient performance, portability and immediate fresh feeling make them the perfect investment for your home and office, especially when installing an air conditioning unit or ceiling fan is not the best option.
On Klarstein you can find various models of pedestal fans and stand fans in different sizes and power levels, specially designed to last, and offer a pleasant flow of fresh air combined with modern design fitting into the decor of your home. Following some tips on how to find the right fan for your needs, as well as some important information of the main features to look at when buying a stand fan.
How does a Pedestal Fan work?
Pedestal fans are axial fans with a protective grid on the stand, often adjustable in height. The airflow is guided by the centrally located motor in the ventilation hood and exits at the front of the device. The strongest pressure can be measured at the top, at the height of the fan hood. With an adjustable angle of inclination and swivelling, stand fans achieve room-wide air movement. When you are standing in front of the pedestal fan, incline the fan head upwards.
During the winter season, such a model can be used to distribute warm heating air too. The air path to the ceiling should be free. At a lower setting, the fan moves cold room air upwards. This moves the warm air layer to the ceiling, so the temperature is balanced in the room. Therefore, the room heater can be set to a lower level. Recirculating stand fans can be used with any heat source and the propellers of the device have a diameter of up to 63.5 cm and thus achieve an air volume of up to 220 m3/min.
Things to consider when buying a Stand Fan or Pedestal Fan
On Klarstein you can find many different types of fans. They include different functionalities, power and consumption levels, as well as designs. Therefore, we like to provide some information about important characteristics to look at when buying a stand fan or pedestal fan:
- Fan power output
Floor standing fans are known for their powerful air output, measured by calculating the air volume pushed out per minute (cubic meters per minute, or CMM). The more air the fan can produce, the greater the flow and the cooler feeling it makes. The optimal value essentially depends on the space where you use your device. For example, for large rooms, a pedestal fan should reach 3,000 CMM or more. If you're looking for a fan to use indoors, the optimal range is between 60 MCM and 100 MCM. - Rotation speed
Stand fans include different speed levels, measured in rotations per minute. As for the CMM, the faster the fan rotates, the faster the cooling is. There are two types of pedestal fans available: normal and high-speed fans. A device with 1300 RPM is considered normal, while those capable of reaching 2100 RPM are considered high-speed fans. However, a suitable RPM range for domestic use is between 1300 RPM and 1400 RPM. - Materials and durability
One of the main factors determining whether a pedestal fan will stand the test of time is the material it is made of, usually plastic or metal. Plastic fans are lighter, making them easier to move from place to place, while metal fans are more robust and durable but just a bit heavier and bulkier. We recommend that you consider the hours of use, the risk of rusting and maintenance requirements before making your purchase. - Noise emissions
Heavier and more powerful stand fans tend to make more noise, forcing you to choose between performance and quietness. Remember to test the fan on several speed modes to see if they are too noisy for your needs or not. For example, some newer models like our Silent Storm pedestal fan come with mute technology and an automatic shut-off timer, making it perfect for use at night.
Advantages of Stand Fans vs. Tower Fans
Stand fans have always been seen as a simple appliance with little or no scope for aesthetic and functional improvement. Thanks to modern and innovative technology, Klarstein offers the latest generation of pedestal fans combining high performance, efficiency, and design at an affordable price. Thanks to their portability and size, they can also be used in outdoor areas all year round, unlike tower fans, which are more suitable for indoor use by virtue of their characteristics. Tower fans have a long rectangular air outlet located closer to the floor, although their top section can still blow air at a reasonable height, and some have louvers to direct the airflow up or down.
Pedestal fans, on the other hand, rest on a height-adjustable stand and are pretty efficient when you need the air to be directed at a certain height above the ground or a particular point in the room - for example, the surface of a bed, or angled towards the ceiling for an indirect breeze. Unlike ceiling fans, you can place floor standing fans almost anywhere a stable surface is available. Several models come with extra features such as variable speed settings, remote controls, and timers. Finally, they can come in handy when you want to clear the air in a room because of a damp carpet, wet paint, or smoke from a burnt dinner. Let's compare the main features of these two types of fans in the overview below:
Features | Tower Fan | Stand Fan |
Aesthetics | Attractive and elegant design | Simpler design, often with little attention to details |
Size | Reduced footprint, due to compact size | Takes up more space, due to the size of the pedestal and the larger rotation range |
Power | Less powerful | More powerful |
Airflow control | No control on height and direction | Easily swivelled, in height and horizontal rotation |
Noise emissions | They have a noise-cancellation function | They are generally a bit noisier |
