Ich besitze seit 2 Jahren eine kleine Eismaschine mit Thermoelektrik, welche gut funktioniert, aber nur rund 400ml Rohmasse erlaubt, lange braucht und dazu noch ein schwaches Rührwerk hat. Trotzdem habe ich mir dieser Maschine viele Male Eis zubereitet und hatte dieses Jahr Lust auf mehr... Ich habe lange gelesen und mich dann auf eine Maschine für rund 1,5 Liter fertige Eismasse festgelegt. Zudem sollte die Maschine keinen obenliegenden Motor haben, da diese alle nicht sonderlich durchzugsstark zu sein scheinen. Geworden ist es dann für mich die Unold 48893 Limited. Die 5 Jahre Garantie waren für mich wichtig, da Kompressorgeräte ab und zu dazu neigen, im Laufe einiger Zeit Kühlmittel durch Mikrolecks zu verlieren. Da dies oft nach 2-3 Jahren der Fall ist, ist man mit den 5 Jahren auf der sicheren Seite. Denn sollte das Gerät nach 3 Jahren noch gut kühlen, ist die Chance sehr gering, dass Kühlmittel verloren geht. Meine Mutter war von der Limited so begeistert, dass sie auch so ein Gerät haben wollte. Zuerst habe ich eine Unold 48818 gekauft, diese ging aber nach kurzer Zeit kaputt. Also wollte ich eine weitere 48893 kaufen, diese war aber nicht mehr günstig zu bekommen. Also habe ich wieder viel gelesen und bin bei der SK-Emma gelandet. Zudem ist mir die Klarstein Yo & Yummy durch das gleiche Design der Emma aufgefallen und diese hat sogar eine Joghurt-Funktion zu bieten. Also habe ich die Klarstein bestellt. Leider war das erste Gerät defekt, Transportschaden. Das Gerät sprang förmlich über die Arbeitsplatte sobald der Kompressor angelaufen ist. Das zweite Gerät ist nun zum Glück komplett ok. Lieferung: Geliefert wird das Gerät in der Originalverpackung, welche aus Geräteschachtel plus Überkarton besteht. Die Polsterung ist für ein Kompressorgerät meines Erachtens zu wenig vorhanden, ebenso fehlt der deutliche Hinweis, dass das Gerät stehend transportiert werden sollte. Hier ist also die Chance ein Gerät mit transportbedingtem Kompressorschaden zu erhalten, leider höher als nötig. Meine beiden Unold-Geräte hatten zum Glück keinen Transportschaden, die zweite Yo & Yummy auch nicht. Bei den Kältemaschinen mit R600a als Kühlmittel muss man das Gerät nicht mehr für längere Zeit aufrecht stehen lassen. Hier reichen 2 Stunden locker aus. Sollte das Gerät stark vibrieren, bringt auch eine längere Wartezeit nichts mehr. In diesem Fall hat sich der Motor im Verdichter ausgehangen und der Verdichter ist unwiederbringlich defekt. Haptik: Alle Geräte (Unold und Klarstein) machen auf den ersten Blick einen hochwertigen Eindruck. Das Edelstahlkleid ist sauber und ohne Dellen verarbeitet, ebenso die Oberseite und das Display sowie die Druckknöpfe und der Drehknopf. Nur auf der Unterseite haben alle Geräte leider nur 2 rutschfeste Füße spendiert bekommen, egal ob Klarstein oder Unold. Die beiden anderen Füße bestehen zur Gänze aus Hartplastik. Auf der Unterseite befindet sich eine Wartungsklappe für das Motorgetriebe. Diese ist durch 4 kleine Schrauben befestigt. Ich habe bei allen Geräten die Klappe geöffnet um den Zustand des Getriebes zu überprüfen. Bei den Unold-Maschinen war genug Fett vorhanden und bedurfte keiner Nachbesserung! Bei der Yo & Yummy wurde das Fett bei einem Zahnradpaar vergessen. Das habe ich mit dem übliche Silikonfett nachgebessert. Ich rate hier jedem das zu kontrollieren. Es wäre schade, wenn die Haltbarkeit der Maschine durch diesen Fehler eingeschränkt wird. Der Aufbau des Getriebes wirkt bei der Yo & Yummy etwas besser durchdacht. Aber das kann täuschen. Der Eisbehälter unterscheidet sich zwischen den Geräten jedoch komplett. Die Unold hat im Boden eine Aufnahme für den Rührstab. Dieser Zapfen ist nur wenige Zentimeter lang und der Rührstab wird einfach aufgesetzt. Oben wird dieser durch den Deckel zentriert. Diese Konstruktion hat einen Nachteil. Der Rührstab wird, wenn die Eismasse härter wird, nach oben gedrückt und schabt den Boden dadurch nicht mehr ab. Dafür lässt sich der Behälter leicht reinigen und das Eis gut aus dem Behälter nehmen. Bei der Klastein befindet sich im Eisbehälter mittig ein Rohr. Durch dieses Rohr läuft die in der Maschine befindliche Welle, auf welcher der Rührstab aufgesetzt wird. Das hat den Vorteil, dass der Rührstab perfekt zentriert läuft und im Betrieb nicht nach oben gedrückt werden kann. Dafür lässt sich der Behälter schlecht reinigen und das Eis nur mit einer Gummispachtel aus dem Behälter kratzen. Der innere Aufbau der Kältemaschine und dessen Qualität ist bei beiden Geräten, trotz "made in China" absolut vorbildlich! Testbetrieb ohne Eismasse: Die Unold erreicht ohne Eismasse eine Endtemperatur von rund -35 Grad nach etwa 20-30 Minuten. Die Klarstein schafft hier maximal -30 Grad. Der Unterschied kommt durch die Verwendung unterschiedlicher Kompressoren zustande. Die Unold hat einen Hangzhou QD75 verbaut, die Klarstein einen Hangzhou QD65Y. Der QD75Y hat eine um rund 15% höhere Kälteleistung. Bei der Eisproduktion macht das aber keinen Unterschied! Trotz der höheren Temperatur, ist die Gleichmäßigkeit bei der Klarstein-Maschine deutlich besser. Eisherstellung: Ich habe nach vielen Versuchen festgestellt, dass das Rezept der wichtigste Faktor bei der Eisherstellung ist. Man sollte auch nicht mehr als 750ml Rohmasse verwenden, da diese sonst während der Herstellung nach oben gedrückt werden kann und die Maschine versaut. Das passiert bei den rund 1000ml Rohmasse sehr oft. Die Endfestigkeit und Ausdehnung hängt aber fast ausschließlich vom Rezept ab. Hier muss man etwas probieren um optimale Ergebnisse zu erhalten. Mit etwas Übung eignet sich das Gerät sehr gut und funktioniert problemlos. Sollte man beim Unold-Gerät das Problem haben, dass der Rührstab nach oben gedrückt wird, kann man ein oder zwei Silikondichtringe auf den Zapfen oben am Rührstab aufschieben, welche in die Büchse in den Deckel kommt. Damit wird das vermieden. Bei der Yo & Yummy gibt es dieses Problem nicht. Der größte Unterschied zwischen den Geräten ist Drehzahl des Rührstabes. Die Klarstein rührt etwa 3 mal schneller als die Unold-Geräte. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass das einen Unterschied ausmacht, doch das tut es! Durch die höhere Drehzahl der Yo & Yummy wird deutlich mehr Luft in die Eismasse befördert und das Eis wird deutlich cremiger und Leichter! Die Eismasse hat so keine Zeit am Behälterrand festzufrieren und bleibt bis zum Schluss in Bewegung. Da der Motor der Unold und Klarstein baugleich ist, hat die höhere Drehzahl weniger Kraft zur folge. Ein Problem ist das aber nicht. Bei der Unold friert der Rührstab trotz deutlich mehr an Kraft früher ein, als bei der Klarstein. Joghurt-Funktion: Die Joghurt-Funktion bietet nur die Yo & Yummy. Diese funktioniert hervorragend. Der Behälter wird nicht auf die angegeben 42 Grad erwärmt (das wäre auch zu viel), sonder erreicht real um die 37 Grad. Diese Temperatur wird über ein Thermostat für die gewählte Zeit genau beibehalten. Super ist auch, dass das Gerät nach der Produktion automatisch in den Kühlmodus wechselt, bis der Joghurt entnommen wird. Er wird dabei auf rund 5 Grad gekühlt. Die Funktion klappt auch super für Kefir, Butter- oder Sauermilch! Kritik: Ich hätte mir bei beiden Geräten mehr Menüfunktionen gewünscht. Eine flexiblere Zeiteinstellung und eine einstellbare Temperatur wären wünschenswert und leicht umsetzbar. 4 rutschfeste Füße wären ebenfalls besser als zwei. Und dann ist da noch die Sache mit dem nicht ausreichend fest sitzendem Rührstab bei den Unold Geräten, welcher im Deckel zu viel Spiel hat und der zu langsam drehend Rührstab. Bei der Yo & Yummy entfallen diese Probleme. Und auch wenn der Behälter schwieriger zu reinigen ist, finde ich diese Lösung deutlich besser. Dazu kommt noch die tolle Joghurt-Funktion und ein attraktiver Preis. Fazit: Die Yo & Yummy hat volle 5 Sterne verdient. Sie leistet einen besseren Job als die Unold-Geräte, hat eine zusätzliche Joghurt-Funktion und ist auch noch deutlich billiger! Für die Unold 48893 sprechen allerdings die 5 Jahre Garantie. Es muss jeder für sich selbst entscheiden was einem wichtiger ist.

The 5 year warranty was important to me as every now and then compressor units tend to lose refrigerant through micro leaks over a period of time. Since this is often the case after 2-3 years, you are on the safe side with 5 years. Because if the device is still cooling well after 3 years, the chance of coolant being lost is very small. My mother was so enthusiastic about the Limited that she also wanted one of these devices. First I bought an Unold 48818, but it broke after a short time. So I wanted to buy another 48893, but it wasn't cheap anymore. So I read a lot again and ended up at SK-Emma. I also noticed the Klarstein Yo & Yummy with the same design as the Emma and it even has a yoghurt function. So I ordered the Klarstein. Unfortunately, the first device was defective, transport damage. The device literally jumped over the worktop as soon as the compressor started. Fortunately, the second device is now completely ok. Delivery: The device is delivered in the original packaging, which consists of the device box plus outer carton. In my opinion, there is not enough padding for a compressor device, and there is also no clear indication that the device should be transported in an upright position. So here the chance of getting a device with transport-related compressor damage is unfortunately higher than necessary. Luckily my two Unold devices had no transport damage, neither did the second Yo & Yummy. With the chillers using R600a as the refrigerant, you no longer have to leave the unit upright for long periods of time. 2 hours is enough here. If the device vibrates heavily, waiting longer won't help. In this case, the motor in the compressor has seized up and the compressor is irreparably defective. Feel: All devices (Unold and Klarstein) make a high-quality impression at first glance. The stainless steel dress is clean and processed without dents, as is the top and the display as well as the push buttons and the rotary knob. Unfortunately, all devices only have 2 non-slip feet on the underside, regardless of whether they are Klarstein or Unold. The other two feet are made entirely of hard plastic. On the underside there is a maintenance hatch for the motor gearbox. This is attached by 4 small screws. I opened the flap on all devices to check the condition of the gearbox. There was enough grease on the Unold machines and didn't need touching up! On the Yo & Yummy, the grease was left out on a pair of gears. I corrected that with the usual silicone grease. I advise everyone here to check this. It would be a pity if the durability of the machine was limited by this error. The construction of the gearbox seems a little better thought out on the Yo & Yummy. But that can be deceiving. However, the ice container differs completely between the devices. The Unold has a holder for the stirring rod in the bottom. This spigot is only a few centimeters long and the stirring rod is simply attached. This is centered at the top by the cover. This construction has a disadvantage. When the ice cream mass hardens, the stirring rod is pushed upwards and no longer scrapes the bottom. The container is easy to clean and the ice can be easily removed from the container. The Klastein has a tube in the middle of the ice container. The shaft in the machine, on which the stirring rod is placed, runs through this tube. This has the advantage that the stirring rod is perfectly centered and cannot be pushed upwards during operation. On the other hand, the container is difficult to clean and the ice can only be scraped out of the container with a rubber spatula. The internal structure of the chiller and its quality is absolutely exemplary for both devices, despite "made in China"! Test operation without ice mass: The Unold reaches a final temperature of around -35 degrees after around 20-30 minutes without ice mass. The Klarstein manages a maximum of -30 degrees here. The difference comes from the use of different compressors. The Unold has installed a Hangzhou QD75, the Klarstein a Hangzhou QD65Y. The QD75Y has around 15% more cooling capacity. But that doesn't make a difference when it comes to ice cream production! Despite the higher temperature, the uniformity of the Klarstein machine is significantly better. Ice Cream Making: I have found after many trials that the recipe is the most important factor in ice cream making. You shouldn't use more than 750ml raw mass, otherwise it can be pushed up during production and mess up the machine. This happens very often with the approximately 1000ml raw mass. However, the final strength and expansion depend almost exclusively on the recipe. Here you have to try something to get the best results. With a little practice, the device is very suitable and works without any problems. If you have the problem with the Unold device that the stirring rod is pushed upwards, you can slide one or two silicone sealing rings onto the spigot at the top of the stirring rod, which goes into the socket in the lid. This avoids that. The Yo & Yummy does not have this problem. The biggest difference between the devices is the rotation speed of the stirring rod. The Klarstein stirs about 3 times faster than the Unold devices. I didn't think it would make a difference, but it does! Due to the higher speed of the Yo & Yummy, significantly more air is transported into the ice cream mass and the ice cream becomes significantly creamier and lighter! The ice mass has no time to freeze to the edge of the container and remains in motion until the end. Since the engine of the Unold and Klarstein is identical, the higher speed results in less power. But that's not a problem. With the Unold, the stirring rod freezes earlier than with the Klarstein, despite significantly more power. Yoghurt function: The yoghurt function is only available on the Yo & Yummy. This works great. The container is not heated to the specified 42 degrees (that would also be too much), but actually reaches around 37 degrees. This temperature is precisely maintained by a thermostat for the selected time. It is also great that the device automatically switches to cooling mode after production until the yoghurt is removed. It is cooled to around 5 degrees. The function also works great for kefir, buttermilk or sour milk! Criticism: I would have liked more menu functions on both devices. A more flexible time setting and an adjustable temperature would be desirable and easy to implement. 4 non-slip feet would also be better than two. And then there is the matter of the stirring rod not being properly seated on the Unold devices, which has too much play in the lid and the stirring rod rotating too slowly. With the Yo & Yummy these problems do not exist. And even if the container is more difficult to clean, I find this solution much better. In addition, there is the great yoghurt function and an attractive price. Conclusion: The Yo & Yummy deserves a full 5 stars. It does a better job than the Unold machines, has an additional yoghurt function and is a lot cheaper too! However, the 5-year guarantee speaks for the Unold 48893. Everyone has to decide for themselves what is more important to them.
