Convector Heater: stylish during the cold season

Winter is just around the corner, and you are planning to get some extra gear to heat your home? Do you want to enjoy a pleasant and uniform temperature and find a visually appealing appliance? You are looking for an affordable solution and want to avoid complex installation works? Then a Klarstein convector heater may just be what you are looking for.

Electric convector heaters warm your rooms using the principle of convection. Due to their characteristics can ensure a pleasant, homogeneous temperature with low power consumption. It also ensures barely any noise emission, unlike traditional fan heaters.

All our electric convector radiators have a modern and discreet design. Thanks to the different materials and colours these electric heaters can be easily adapted to different furnishing styles. But that's not all.

Some of our models can be remotely controlled from our Klarstein Smart app. It allows you to manage their operation even when you're not at home, to program their switch on. It also navigates through their main functions with extreme ease. Don’t miss our offers, and get the best convector heater for your needs on Klarstein online shop.

What is an electric Convector Heater and how does it work?

Convector heaters are electric heating systems that use electrical resistance to warm the stream cold air entering from their bottom part. Expelling it as a flow of hot air through their top grid. A convector heater, therefore, leverages the natural movement of the air.

In other words, the hot air generated by it decreases its density. Since it is lighter it will tend to rise. While cold air, denser and heavier than hot air, descends downwards and is fed into the convector.

Some convection heaters are equipped with an internal fan to accelerate the movement of heated air and distribute it more quickly. In most cases, a thermostat regulates the production of heat, allowing to set the desired temperature in the room. When using an electric convector radiator, install it at floor level on the outside walls and under the windows. The movement of the heated air counteracts cold air currents and minimises the risk of condensation.

Which Features Should a Convector Heater Have?

A convector heater is a reliable choice for quickly and evenly warming indoor spaces. To ensure maximum comfort, energy efficiency, and ease of use, the ideal convector heater should offer several key features:

Adjustable Thermostat

A built-in thermostat allows you to set and maintain your desired room temperature. Some advanced models even offer digital or programmable thermostats for precise control.

Multiple Heat Settings

The ability to choose between different power levels (e.g., 750 W, 1250 W, 2000 W) helps tailor the heat output to the room size and your comfort needs—while saving energy when full power isn't needed.

Timer Function

A timer lets you program when the heater turns on or off automatically. This is especially useful for pre-warming rooms or avoiding unnecessary heating at night or while you're away.

Overheat Protection

Safety is crucial. A good convector heater should include automatic shut-off if the internal temperature exceeds safe limits, preventing overheating or fire hazards.

Silent Operation

Since convector heaters work without a fan, they are usually very quiet—ideal for bedrooms, offices, or any space where silence is appreciated.

Portability and Wall Mounting Option

Look for models with carry handles or wheels for easy movement. Many convector heaters also offer wall-mounting kits, allowing flexible installation based on your space.

Frost Protection Mode

This function activates the heater automatically when the temperature drops below a certain level (e.g., 5 °C), helping to prevent freezing in basements, garages, or vacation homes.

Digital Display or Smart Features (Optional)

Modern units may include an LED display, remote control, or even smart home integration for convenient operation and better energy management.

A quality convector heater should be safe, adjustable, energy-efficient, and suited to your space and lifestyle. With the right features, it can provide consistent and quiet warmth exactly when and where you need it.

What are the pros and cons of a Convection Heater?

In the table below, we briefly compare the main pros and cons of the use of convector heaters.

Pros Cons
They heat the air in a room uniformly, leveraging the convection principle If installed in large rooms they can consume a lot of energy, so they are recommended only for small and medium-sized rooms
They are lighter than oil filled radiators, so they can be moved more easily from one room to another They take longer to heat the room when they are not equipped with a built-in fan
They can be used as an additional heating system Some models, particularly panel heaters, are relatively expensive
You can use a ceiling fan at very low speed to distribute heat faster and more evenly Electric convector heaters equipped with internal fans can be noisy
No installation work is required before the use They don't offer a good thermal inertia: this means that when they are switched off, the heat is no longer perceived.
They do not produce any by-products that are harmful for health or environment Convection heaters don’t have a good thermal inertia; this means that when they are switched off, the heat is no longer perceived

Convector Heater or Fan Heater: which one to choose?

Each device has its pros and cons. A fan heater generates heat in a quick, simple and economical way. It works by generating and transferring heat to the surrounding environment through a built-in fan.

It is generally a small device, and it’s comfortable to use in smaller rooms - for example, the bathroom. It provides heat in a localised manner, warming only the necessary area. Due to its operating principle, it tends to remove dust from the air, causing problems for sensitive, allergic and asthmatic people.

A standard convector heater, uses natural convection to circulate air movement in a room through electric resistances, without using a fan. The heating process is slower but does not raise dust.

Where to place an electric Convection Heater?

In addition to the aesthetic aspect, choosing the right position of the convector heater is essential to optimise the performance. The same for the adequate size and format. Unless insulation is optimal - thanks to double or triple glazing or in an energy-efficient building. It is recommended to place it under or next to a window, when possible.

A wall mounted convector heater is also a very popular option.

Doing so will attenuate the entrance of cold air. A window can make up between 5 and 10% of the heat loss. Placing the convection heater close to the walls separating the house from the outside is also a good option.

If you plan to use a fan convector to warm a room where you use to spend a lot of time, it is advisable to install two of them. The heat will be better distributed, substantially improving the thermal comfort. In this specific case, and taking into account the drying of the air and the ionic imbalance produced by convection heating, it is advisable to use a humidifier to achieve an optimal hygrometric balance.

Benefits when buying a Convector Heater on Klarstein

  • Safety is one of the most important aspects to consider in an electric convector. It is always advisable to opt for models equipped with a safety fuse. This prevents overheating by switching off the unit until it cools down again for normal use.

  • Another feature that contributes to safe operation is the presence of an illuminated power switch. This way, you will know whether or not it is still on when you go to sleep. A convector heater with timer, will help to reduce the costs if you accidentally forget to shut it down.

  • One of the main advantages of small convector heaters is that they are portable. Thanks to the presence of handles and wheels. Make sure that these elements are made with quality materials. This is to avoid accidental breakage that will make the device limping and more challenging to move between rooms. If you plan to hang it to the wall, make sure that the appliance is supplied with the appropriate bracket and screws.

  • The best convection heater will be equipped with a thermostat and remote control to regulate the heat flow. Our more advanced models, such as the Bornholm Smart, can be remotely controlled through our innovative smart home Klarstein app. You’ll just have to tap the screen of your smartphone to operate your appliance just as if you were in front of it.

  • Last but not least: If noise disturbs you, it is recommended to choose a model without a fan.

FAQ

How do convector heaters work?

Convector heaters operate by drawing in cool air, heating it through an internal heating element. And then releasing the warmed air back into the room. This process creates a convection current, which helps distribute heat throughout the space.

Are convector heaters energy-efficient?

The energy efficiency of convector heaters varies depending on their design and usage. Some models with certain heat settings can be energy-efficient. Particularly if they have adjustable thermostatic controls and timers, which allow you to control the heat output and usage duration. Efficient insulation in the room also contributes to their overall effectiveness.

Are convector heaters safe to use?

Convector heaters are generally safe when used correctly. They come with safety features like overheat protection and tip-over switches to reduce the risk of accidents. However, it's crucial to follow the manufacturer's guidelines. Also to maintain adequate clearance around the heater, and avoid leaving them unattended to ensure safe usage.
