What kind of heat does an ethanol stove generate?

Biofuel fireplaces gained a lot of ground in recent years. There are two main reasons for this: they are presented as more sustainable, as they do not use fossil fuel, and they offer many possibilities for interior decoration. In fact, until recently, many people still considered these stoves as luxury objects. Bioethanol fireplaces heat the room just like traditional ones but stop emanating heat as soon as they are turned off.

Traditional fireplaces powered by coal or wood use fire-resistant elements that accumulate and radiate heat even after extinction. Bioethanol fireplaces or bio alcohol burners, unlike the previous ones, are made of steel, a material that has the property of not accumulating heat. This means that the combustion system heats up almost as quickly as it cools down. Rapid cooling is not a product of bio alcohol, but of the material that supports its combustion.

How is ethanol produced?

Bioethanol is produced from large quantities of vegetables (biomass) which, when processed, allows the fermentation of sugars, producing this kind of alcohol. Its application as a fuel aims to reduce the use of oil derivatives such as petrol. Therefore, the kind of suitable vegetable to obtain it must be rich in sucrose, such as sugar cane, beet, sweet sorghum, etc.. In the case of the latter, ethanol is obtained by fermentation, or vegetables rich in starch, such as corn, potatoes or yucca, to which water and an enzyme are added to start the fermentation process.

Biofuel can also be obtained from cellulosic biomass such as wood or agricultural waste, where vegetables must be affected by enzymes to produce fermentation. After fermentation, only the purification phase remains, where the alcohol is separated from the water by distillation.
