Klarstein’s Charcoal Grills for real BBQ fans

Typically, a charcoal grill is characterised by a container, made of resistant materials to keep the embers burning. BBQ fans prefer using wood and charcoal, whose aroma adds a unique flavour to food. In addition to charcoal which only provides high temperatures for a short time, briquettes made from compressed charcoal, have become a popular alternative providing greater stability and durability. On top, you can use them a second time if they are not completely burnt when having a charcoal grill.

Grills with a lid allow you to speed up cooking times and make the most of the heat. Still, before you start cooking you have to wait for the flame to drop and for the wood or charcoal to turn into embers: ignoring this simple rule can irreparably damage the flavour of the food. The drawback that limits the use of a charcoal grill is the intense production of smoke and odours, especially when they are lit. This means that charcoal grills can only be used outdoors, in gardens and open spaces, but not on balconies, as condominium regulations usually expressly prohibit their use.

How to choose the right Grill for your needs?

When buying a grill, the right choice depends on the budget available, the result you are aiming for, and the conditions of the place where you are grilling. When you are in open spaces, using a charcoal grill certainly offers the thrill of authentic grilling with unparalleled results, but in addition to longer preparation and ignition times, certain amount of experience is required to manage the ignition phase of the grill in the best possible way and maintain the ideal temperature of the embers during cooking.

On the other hand, gas BBQs are decidedly easy to use, more discreet in terms of smoke and odour emissions and among the easiest to clean after use. However, they imply a different approach of grilling, as they do not offer the same result as a standard grill. Finally, electric grills are generally reasonably priced, offer maximum flexibility of use, but their performance is certainly not comparable to charcoal grills. Also, the tiny surface area of an electric grill limits its use to BBQs with a small group of people and where you don't have to do much cooking.

Are you looking forward to organising some great barbecues? Are you in doubt about buying your next grill or barbeque grill and wondering which type is best for your intended use? On Klarstein you can browse through our range of grills and BBQ grills on offer for all occasions, whether you prefer a charcoal grill, outdoor pizza oven, BBQ smoker, Dutch oven, electric grill or gas BBQ depending on your personal needs.

BBQ Smoker for ultimate family gatherings

A BBQ smoker cooks food indirectly with hot smoke. The food is surrounded by smoke and heated very evenly and gently. The temperature range is between 90°C and 120°C. For low-temperature cooking in the smoker, the temperature is reduced to approx. 80°C and the cooking time for many recipes takes several hours. However, slow cooking with a BBQ smoker at moderate heat makes meat super tender, keeps it juicy and gives it the typical smoky charm.

The most common barbeque smoker is a type of oven with two chambers: A horizontal cooking chamber (pit) with one or more grates and a comparatively smaller side-fire box which is slightly offset and lower. The fuel is placed in the fire box, food in the higher chamber. The fire box and cooking box are connected, but there is no direct contact between the food and the heat source. Thanks to the special design of the grill, the hot smoke produced when wood and charcoal are burnt flows from the bottom to the top through the cooking chamber and from there to the chimney.

Furthermore, when using a BBQ smoker, the risk of toxins developing is rapidly reduced due to the spatial separation of the food being cooked and the heat source. Direct grilling involves temperatures of up to 300 degrees Celsius and more, which favours the formation of harmful substances. Also, fat, marinade and meat juices can drip into the embers, producing bluish smoke. At the same time, when smoking with a BBQ grill, low temperatures prevent sensitive nutrients from being lost. Many vitamins and minerals are burnt off during grilling. Smokers protect vital substances and flavours by heating them gently. Therefore, the food is healthier and tastes better.

Electric Grills for barbeques on your balcony

An electric grill takes up little space, is small and functional, requiring only a plug socket to operate. Moreover, it produces very little smoke and is by far the easiest to use anywhere. The electric grill is perfectly suited for home and indoor use. The heat is produced by a heating element that becomes incandescent, and all you have to do to start grilling is turn on the switch, adjust the thermostat and wait a few minutes until the grill reaches the ideal temperature.

As electric grills are a practical and generally economical solution, you should consider that they do not significantly alter the taste of the food. In some cases, this is an advantage, but in general, the result in terms of taste, especially for meat, is not comparable to that of a BBQ grill. Although the latest models allow more precise temperature adjustment. Another factor to consider before buying a grill is the high power consumption of the device - often over 2000 watts - which makes it not ideal for long-cooking food. On the other hand, an electric grill needs low investment and is a good alternative if you want to experiment a new way to cook a variety of foods in your everyday life.
